I started working on my own Mystery Solvers group that is based on a comic I’ve read. Kinda like a new generation.

You know. Watching Mystery Incorporated again. I’m starting to see another big problem from this show and it’s the same problem as Teen Titans Go and Rise of the Turtles seem to suffer from. That being: They’re all the SAME character.

Let me give some examples:

One episode has Velma wearing a Frenchman’s outfit. The problem with that joke should’ve been that it would be out of character for her because she hates putting on different clothes. Heck, earlier in that episode you just made fun of the fact that she refused to wear even a swimsuit. So that should be the funniest part of the joke but it’s not.

In another episode is a joke where Daphne is addicted to chocolate. Again, you could give this joke to ANY of them and it would make no difference. It would be the same lines, the same reaction, the same impact. If it’s Fred, the joke would’ve been the same. Of it was Velma, the joke would’ve been the same. Heck even if it was Shaggy and Scooby. The joke would’ve been the same.

And I know what fans say. “Oh! Come on! It’s Scooby-Doo.Who cares?” But even in OTHER Scooby-Doo incarnations, Scooby and the gang had personalities that were different from each other. So you could tell who’s who and helped the story.

Here, there’s too many times where they’re all idiots, all obsessive, all bewildering goofs. Their differences are too minor. For example, Fred is obsessed with ascots and traps. Daphne and Velma are obsessed with thier boys and Shaggy and Scooby are (big shock) obsessed with food. And it’s all made fun of throughout the entire series.

And even with all that said. The problem is that unlike Teen Titans Go that’s designed to waste your time and be full of jokes. Mystery Incorporated is trying to tell a serious story and you can’t do that if you’re going to throw meta jokes and one-dimensional characters.

So even though the voice acting and delivers are still great in that show. When the story works it’s all based on WHAT’S being said. Not WHO said it.

So yes. I now know why I hate Mystery Incorporated so much and how now I want to use what I learned to counter it.
